These packages, typically offered by Big Tech firms, reflect the region’s steep living costs and taxes, necessitating high pay to attract top talent.

However, such figures are outliers. Globally salaries vary widely based on experience, education, and geography, with most regions offering far lower compensation. For companies hiring in Latin America, competitive salaries need not mirror Silicon Valley’s standards but should align with local norms to attract skilled developers without overspending.

We benchmarked these against U.S. rates for context.

Some Latin American countries were excluded from our research mainly because of factors like limited salary transparency, economic instability, and smaller tech sectors. For example, a country like Venezuela has hyperinflation and an economic crisis that makes salary data unreliable or outdated. Similarly, smaller economies like Bolivia, El Salvador and Belize have underdeveloped tech industries, leading to sparse data.

The best-paying countries are Panama, Costa Rica and Uruguay. However, even within a country, there can be big differences, as developers in major cities tend to get better paid than developers living outside of urban areas.

Popular backend languages like Go and Python also pay well. However, these are average salaries, so there can be big differences depending on where a developer is located.
